Welcome to the index in focus!

Welcome to the Index in Focus! This week we’re looking at one of Kaiko Indices newest products, the Kaiko EAGLE Index. This is our first regional index and asset selection wasn’t sector specific. As such it includes Layer-1 assets, a meme coin and a utility token.

    • The performance of EGLX and its constituent assets.

    • How the U.S. election was a key driver of growth

    • The outlook for U.S. related assets.

    Introduction

The Kaiko EAGLE Index includes five tokens, the top five U.S.-related assets in our token universe. The ranking was based on size and liquidity and then weighting was done by size (75%) and momentum (25%).

Since November each asset has risen, with XRP, LINK, and DOGE experiencing the largest returns.

How does this stack up against competitors? Based on simulated performance data, the EGLX index delivers strong returns and even outperforms BTC.

The simple return of the index since January 2023 was 1,113%, more than two times that of a similar index over the same period. Its also outperformed BTC and almost every major asset since then—including stocks like Nvidia.

In our report we go into more detail on the individual drivers for assets included in the index, our classification process and risk metrics. Read the full report below.

To Meme or not to meme

Should meme coins be part of the investable Crypto Universe? What started out as a joke is now a major part of the crypto market. Dogecoin recently ranked fifth in Kaiko’s asset liquidity ranking, and registers billions of dollars in daily trading volumes.

Now there’s even memecoin exchange-traded fund applications. Could meme coins attract serious capital and become part of the investable universe?

We encountered this dilemma while designing the EAGLE Index during asset classification. Skeptics argued meme coins lack fundamentals and have no place in a serious index. But the data told a different story—DOGE, for example, has strong liquidity, high volume, and undeniable market relevance. In the end, we included it.

Macro uncertainty, particularly around the U.S. fiscal outlook, is still weighing on risk appetite. While retail participation remains muted, institutional demand is growing, supported by ETF flows, corporate accumulation, and renewed momentum on the regulatory front.

      A Summer of Uncertainty Ahead?

Bitcoin barely moved, holding near $103K on Monday after Moody’s stripped the U.S. of its last triple-A rating amid mounting debt. Meanwhile, Coinbase entered the S&P 500, but the euphoria was short-lived. The exchange revealed that client information was stolen as hackers sought to blackmail the firm, with costs related to the incident expected to reach $400 million.

Could Pectra reset ETH’s bull case?

      USDC Outpaces Rivals.

Bitcoin held near $95K on Monday as markets brace for this week’s Fed meeting. Last week’s U.S. data showed the economy losing steam despite solid job growth—Q1 GDP contracted as importers raced to stockpile goods ahead of tariffs, while consumer sentiment continued to slide. Meanwhile, Tether posted$1B in Q1 profits, and Arizona’s governor vetoed a bill that would have let the state hold Bitcoin.
